The causes of cracks on the side plate of the excavator boom are as follows
1. The original weld itself has bubbles, slag inclusions and micro cracks. When the excavator is overloaded, the original weld will produce micro cracks and slowly expand.
2. When welding, the performance of the welding rod is inconsistent with that of the plate, resulting in cracks.
3. Due to the large volume of the excavator boom, it is difficult to take reliable and effective heating and insulation measures, and the hardening zone of the base metal around the weld was not completely removed after welding, which led to the decline of the weld strength.
4. During the operation of the excavator, the vibration and impact are large, and the uneven stress at the weld makes the weld crack.
